KeptInUse lets any Shopify store run branded trade-ins: customers send back what they’ve outgrown, you grade and relist it, and they come back to shop with store credit. Works for any category you sell, not just apparel.

Why we built it
KeptInUse didn’t start as a product. It started as my own trade-in program at Jackalo, built over years of figuring out what actually keeps good product in circulation.
1 · Where it began
For years we’ve run trade-ins in house, taking back what customers no longer use and putting it back into circulation. It became part of who we are: proof that a smaller brand can make circularity the norm, not just a marketing line.
2 · The gap we hit
When I went looking for software to run it, everything pushed customers off to a separate, standalone site. That extra hop stalls the sale and shrinks the cart. The platforms that offered it were heavy, enterprise-priced, and built for the biggest names, never for brands our size.
3 · What we made
So we built it: a trade-in that lives inside your store, where customers spend their credit on new and pre-loved in one checkout. Less friction, higher order value. Then we opened it up, because doing better shouldn’t be reserved for the biggest brands.
“I built this for my own store first — so my customers could trade in what they’d outgrown and shop again in the same place, without being sent off to some other website. When I couldn’t find a tool that did it, we made one. Now any Shopify brand can run it.”
Marianna Sachse, Founder of Jackalo
How it works
The whole loop runs inside your store. No marketplace, no middleman, no revenue leaving your brand.
They pick items from past orders on your branded trade-in page, see the credit value instantly, and get a prepaid return label.
Items arrive at your warehouse. Grade each piece in a purpose-built workflow, adjust values, and relist what you accept as pre-loved product.
Store credit is issued automatically as a gift card. Customers spend it on new full-price product, and the cycle repeats.
Why it’s different
Every other trade-in tool sends your customer off to a separate, white-labeled site. That extra step stalls the sale and leaves money behind. KeptInUse lives right inside your store, so shoppers spend their credit on new and pre-loved pieces in a single checkout. Less friction, higher average order value.
Nothing to migrate, either: your customer and order data stays inside your store’s own infrastructure. We never copy it into a separate database.
What’s inside
Built from a real brand’s in-house trade-in operation, then generalized so any store can run it. All of it.
A polished trade-in page that lives on your store, in your name, your colors, and your copy.
Accepted trade-ins issue store credit as a Shopify gift card the moment grading is done.
Receive, inspect, grade item by item, and relist accepted pieces as pre-loved products.
Bring your own carrier and email platform. Every stage fires events and Shopify tags for Klaviyo, Flow, or any tool you use.
Funnel, turnaround times, acceptance rate, and recovery value, with submission and item-level CSV exports.
Auto-send return labels and auto-issue rewards when grading completes, with a spending ceiling you control.
Pricing
No $99 per month entry fee. No prepaid trade-in bundles. You’re only charged when you accept a trade-in, never for submissions you decline.

The per-trade-in fee is one flat charge per accepted transaction, not per item. On a typical $30 credit that’s under 7%, and you keep the resale value of the item. Shipping always runs through your own carrier at cost, and we never mark it up.
Questions
You decide. Nothing is issued as credit until you approve it, so you grade every submission first. Items you decline can be recycled, donated, or sent back, and the customer sees the outcome either way.
Trade-ins are tied to a logged-in customer account, and you inspect and approve every item before any credit is issued, so nothing gets paid out without your sign-off. You set the values, the conditions, and the final call.
Yes. Accepted items you choose to relist become real products in your Shopify catalog, so they sell through your normal storefront and checkout with inventory tracked like anything else you carry.
Inside your own store. KeptInUse keeps everything in your store’s own infrastructure and never copies your customer or order data into a separate database of ours.
No. You bring your own carrier and email platform, and KeptInUse works with what you already use. You’re never locked into ours, and shipping always runs at cost.
